I was scanning something else about this on another blog. Interesting. Your perspective on it is diametrically opposed to what I read originally. I am still reflecting over the diverse points of view, but I’m inclined heavily toward yours. And no matter, that’s what is so great about modernized democracy and the marketplace of thoughts online.

Thanks for the comment. There are so many ways to not only define acceleration and deceleration but also how to apply it to training. The other blog may have been looking at it in a different perspective. Whether it was right or wrong, it is healthy to explore many opinions and then formulate your own opinion from experience with application.

Why would this band training increase the ability of any athlete (I realize the claims here are SS to rugby and fb running backs) to accelerate or decelerate any way other than linearly?

Thanks for the comment. In these simple drills everything is in a linear motion with no change in direction. For theses purposes the athlete would be instructed to transfer the weight distribution through the hips as the band is applying horizontal tensions regardless if it is against resistance or in overspeed decelerated motion. I hope that helps. Give it a try and I think you will quickly understand what I mean. Becareful not to over stretch the bands. In the video, I am overstretching the bands a bit more than they are intended to be stretched.
